Thirty-one years ago, my wife Valerie and I moved to Mountain Meadows on the North Shore of Port Moody.  The natural setting surrounding Burrard Inlet, the parkland, the city's unique character, plus the diversity and distinctiveness of its communities - from Glenayre, Seaview, College Park and Harbour Heights to Moody Centre, Inlet Centre, Coronation Park, Pleasantside, Ioco, Mountain Meadows, Noons Creek and Heritage Woods and Mountain - are among the many reasons why we are proud to call Port Moody home.

Retaining these valued characteristics, while accommodating inevitable growth and development and maintaining delivery of vital services at reasonable cost, is the motivation behind my decision to seek election as Mayor of Port Moody.

As a resident, taxpayer and active volunteer in this community, I have come to recognize that Municipal services are the most concrete public link we have with our local government.  The provision of safe drinking water, fire and police protection, facilities to manage liquid and solid waste are day-to-day services that we expect and often take for granted.  But we all know we have to pay for them.  We also need fiscal prudence in the process so we can keep property taxes and other costs under control.

Port Moody has branded itself  'City of the Arts'.  Our City has significant heritage, cultural and ethnic attributes.  As we move towards the City's centenary in 2013 we will celebrate the arts and honour the City's history and heritage. 

As your Mayor I will dedicate my time and efforts  dealing with the challenges of transit and transportation, economic realities affecting business and the pressures of urban development to retain Port Moody's unique character and environment.
